Who ever designed this item did not take anything into account about the clothes that would be going into it.
The retired armoire are 8 inches deep, the clothes press is 7 inches deep. So putting a pole across the chest would work, but the sleves would be smashed or they would have to be folded.
The boxes that come with the chest are way to high. You can not hang the long Felicity or Elizabeth dress and have the boxes in the chest. They should be half as high.
The three pegs are too low and not spaced right to really hang anything on them. The center peg is the only one you can hang a few dresses on.
Will let you know what I come up with.
I think AG need to rethink this item and make it more functional. If it had just been one inch deeper and the boxes (which should be drawers) half the hight this would be a really useable chest to keep Felicity's and Elizabeth's clothes in.

It's the Two DOLL Clothes Press, and I believe it really is meant to hold dolls instead of clother. . .that's what the boxes are for.

It may have been intended to hold dolls but I don't think I'm alone in wanting a replacement for the original clothes press that will hold clothes. It sounds as though even with some effort to make the new clothes press more practical, it still doesn't work. This is a real disappointment as I was thinking of trying to add a pole. I just don't understand how AG came to the conclusion that people wanted a place to store their dolls instead of a place to store their dolls clothes.

Yes Yes, this is the new clothes press I am talking about.
Not sure about the boxes. I would think they are to hold items, but the dolls take up all the height in the chest. I guess you could just stick the dolls feet in the boxes. Would look kind of silly.
I am thinking of cutting down the boxes in half.
There is nothing to hold the dolls in place if you moved the chest. The other trunks have ribbon to hold the doll and clothes in place. Besides I think these dolls are so lovely they don't need to be kept in a chest.
I think if this could be used for both dolls or doll clothes they would sell more of them.

I am a huge fan of the new clothes press but I know there are many, many AG fans who prefer the retired one. I agree that the usefulness of the new clothes press is limited (who in the world would put two dolls in it???) unless you figure something out for yourself.
I don't keep anything in mine right now (!), I just display it on a shelf near our piano and bring it down when we are playing with Felicity and Elizabeth. It is exquisite. I get so many compliments on it--it is stunning and quite a showpiece.
